long steel products. Ternium was formed by the consolidation of three companies: Siderar (Argentina), Sidor (Venezuela) and Hylsa (Mexico). The company takes it name from the Latin words Ter (three) and Eternium (eternal) in reference to the integration of the three steel mills. Ternium is a division of Argentina based Techint group and employs over 18,000 people worldwide.
Ternium's Venezuelan branch, Sidor, was nationalised by the Venezuelan government in mid-2008 following a series of industrial disputes over pay which had paralysed the company for over year. In early 2009 compensation of around $1.65bn was agreed for the nationalisation of Ternium's 59.7% stake, with Ternium also keeping a 10% stake in the company.
