A mining and metals company, MMX was incorporated in 2005 by its controlling shareholder Eike Batista, with three greenfield projects centered on iron ore and steel products organized into the following systems: MMX Corumbá System, MMX Amapá System, and MMX Minas-Rio System

In July 2006 it launched its Initial Public Offering (IPO) on the São Paulo Stock Exchange, bringing in US$ 509 million for the development of its projects through this trail-blazing transaction on the Brazilian market. 

During its two years in operation since this IPO, MMX has achieved some major triumphs, managing to meet all the goals set for the successful implementation of its mining projects.  This success was due not only to the quality of its assets and projects, but also to a large extent because of the excellence and experience of its management and employees.  We know that our human resources are our major asset, without then these projects would never have become reality.

In January 2008, Anglo American - which was already our partner in the MMX Minas-Rio System - entered into exclusive discussions with the controlling shareholder of MMX on the acquisition of 70% of the capital of the MMX Amapá System and the remaining portion, 51% of the MMX Minas-Rio System.  This acquisition was concluded in August 2008.

Additionally, MMX initiated the development of the logistics projects of the EBX Group: today an independent business, LLX Logística S/A was set up in 2007 through spinning off the logistics assets of MMX, focusing, then, solely on port infrastructure activities. 

MMX SYSTEMS

At the moment, MMX consists of two systems in operation: MMX Corumbá and MMX Sudeste, in addition to being the exclusive vehicle of the EBX Group for investments in mining and metallics projects.

The MMX Corumbá System started up its operations in 2005. The MMX Sudeste System is composed of two newly-acquired mining companies - AVG and Minerminas – that are operating in the Iron Ore Quadrangle and the Bom Sucesso mineral right, both in the State of Minas Gerais, wich take up geological surveys and studies of engineering for the development of Mina, whose  mining rights was acquired in July 2008.

The business plan for the two systems together - MMX and MMX Corumbá Southeast - expected to reach production capacity of 40 million tonnes of iron ore in 2013.

The Minera MMX de Chile is a MMX´s subsidiary, focused on searching new businesses and partnerships in Chile, a country recognized for its high quality mineral reserves. In September 2008 the MMX Minera de Chile acquired two iron ore´s mining rights and signed contracts with option to purchase rights for another two.
